What to Expect
It’s an old saying but it’s true, time flies…whether it’s the fleeting newborn stage, the days of messy hands and smiling faces of your toddler or the budding self-confidence and growing independence of your school age children. No one has ever regretted capturing the fierce love they have for their newborn baby, their child’s infectious laugh or the deep connection of their family.
Let’s face it, though, the thought of planning a photo session can feel overwhelming. That is why I will guide you through the whole process, from beginning to end, from clothing selection to product selection, providing a relaxing and fun experience. I believe the experience is as important as the beautiful works of art we will create. I invest tremendous energy and inspiration into every session I photograph.
Don’t let your wedding photos be the only professional photos that you have. You can’t turn back the clock to capture those precious moments with your newborn, baby or family again.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR NEWBORN SESSIONS
Where do the sessions take place?
All newborn sessions take place in my comfortable home studio in Pacific Palisades.
When should I schedule my newborn session?
It is never too early to book your newborn session. I take a limited number of newborn sessions per month to ensure I can give each of my clients the attention they deserve. Once you book your session, I will add your due date to my calendar. Of course, we won’t know the date of your session until the baby arrives (most clients let me know while they are still in the hospital that their bundle of joy has arrived), but you will have a guaranteed spot on my calendar.
When is the best time to photograph my newborn?
Ideally, the best time to photograph a newborn is between 5-14 days old, when they are still very flexible and spend most of their time sleeping. If for some reason your baby is unable to be photographed during this time frame, don’t worry, with the exception of a few poses, beautiful images can be captured with babies who are slightly older, too.
What can I expect from my newborn session?
A typical newborn session is approximately 4 hours long, depending on the baby. This is time you can use to rest, relax, catch up on emails or just enjoy watching the session. My assistant and I will be working our magic soothing, posing and photographing your baby. Plenty of time is built in for baby to eat and settle.
Are sibling and parents shots included in the session?
Yes, absolutely! The newborn session is an opportunity to capture your family’s story.
Do I need to bring props or blankets to the session?
Not at all. I have an extensive collection of handcrafted props, outfits, headbands, bonnets, and so much more, all for your use. If there is something special you would like your baby photographed with, just let me know ahead of time, so I will know how to incorporate it into the styling of your session.
Should I be worried about exposing my baby to others?
Your baby’s well being and safety is my utmost concern. I clean and sanitize the studio after each session, and my assistant and I are up-to-date on all vaccinations, including T-Dap and a yearly flu shot. I am proud to say that I have trained with some of the top newborn photographers in the country to learn safe newborn posing, handling and soothing techniques. The session will be a relaxing and gentle experience for your newborn and you.
How soon will we see the images from the session?
We will meet for an in-person slideshow presentation usually within 10 days of your session. This is where you will pick your favorite images, and I can help you design some beautiful heirloom products for your home and family.
